Are these original 1967 L48 engine parts?
« on: July 08, 2012, 05:06:19 PM »
I am slowly gathering the parts needed to put my engine back to stock and want to know if these are original L48 parts that should be on.  I do not see any stampings/castings.  Here is my engine production code off my POP if that helps: V011MV (350/PG/AIR)

Also, does anyone have original pics, specs, parts and part numbers of this engine?  Thanks guys,

Joe

Joe the air cleaner is not original. The valve covers and the oil fill tube look original. The fill tube is for a enclosed system polution equiped car from LA. The wire separators are not original. Good luck with your project.

The filler tube to carb base hose would have spring type hose clamps at both ends, 3829058.  I can't tell if the hose is correct but the PCV valve doesn't look right and the valve originally would have a silver finish like zinc? plating.  Here's a pic:

I thought the caps were the flat top style with the S rivet, but there are change notes in the AIM dated 2/23/67 and I've seen your cap on other engines said to be survivors, so you may also need to consider your build date.  Look at UPC K19 and K24 in the AIM closely for L48 specifics, to include the larger diameter snorkel type air cleaner with two tubes in the base.  Lid would be chrome for the L48.

Anyone know of a place that has this air cleaner assembly?  I checked OldMuscleCars.com, heartbeat city, and Ricks but only found the assembly with the single tube in the base...

That oil filler cap looks to be a common parts store replacement manufactured by Stant. They look very close, but not original.

It has the S rivet on it.

Nope, I finally found a double tubed one on e-Bay, not sure if it is totally correct or just close since the label was illegible.  I think the angles of the tubes varied for different models, you can look at the AIM and get an idea.  I bought what I thought was a single tube type from one vendor (that's what they showed) and a flat base with no tubes arrived.  I called them and they gave me some story about how even the repo single tubes were no longer available.  I gave up on repops at that point.

Looks similar but I can't recall exactly and my car is in storage a couple states away, also hard to tell without seeing the angle of the bottom tubes.  Take a look at UPC K19 Sheet A10 in the AIM to get an idea of the angles.
