Hi I would like to put together a data base of original 1969 camaros and hopefully create a data base of what the date on your distributors are. Since this piece is often res-tamped, if you are doubtful if you have an original please post a pic. I have a 08C car and after the original owner had the distributor recurved numerous times, at one point a shop installed something other than the 1111480. I know they made them in batches, I just don't know what other cars close to mine have in them, and I thought there may be other guys out there trying to figure this out as well. thanks guys
By the way I am interested in buying an unrestored original if somebody has one laying around collecting dust.... I know good luck.....

I think the problem with having a public database of known original distributor dates is that it just makes it more helpful to those people who are restampers.

The information could also be helpful to those who have an almost intact car but because of things being replaced, the original item may be gone & with the high prices of some of the pieces, it would be nice to know what should be correct before purchasing. This type of information does not need to be public but it would be nice if when ask of a certain piece, the asker could be contacted with what he need to know
I ask this of a 772 fan a while back. I finally started looking at other pieces of the car with similar dates to determine what I should purchase. I used the jack date which I knew was the original to determine what fan I needed
Just some thoughts...Joe

Well I understand with guys re stamping parts, which I know how to identify . I was just thinking a data base like the gas tank one, or the cowl hood one would be an aid to myself and others . I have not seen a original dated distributor after May of 69, so I don't know if there was enough made in this batch that lasted through the end the 69 model run or not. Would a March distributor be to early for my 08C car?

The distributor date should be before the engine build date, not the body.

Not sure for '69 then. I checked my 67 BB's and for the engine assy date of T0214 has the dist dated Jan 6th '67. My T0308 engine distributor is Feb 5th '67. Seems about a month lag for shelf time. Interesting now that I see this how both were made the begining of each month. I wonder if that is when a batch run was scheduled? Mike

You might want to contact Jerry M. No one has more information on the 480 distributors than him. He helped me identify a good date code for my car.

well I will give it a whirl, I thought getting some feedback from guys on here might be quicker, and possibly more accurate since there may be more members with original cars than Jerry may have inspected. thanks

Excellent point. I was with a Camaro Parts business 1983-1997. The '480 distributor was still available from both Delco and GM into the early '90s. We didn't stock them but acquired several for customer orders. They were identical to OE. New unstamped housings were also available from GMPD and we acquired a dozen or so for a particular customer.
