1967 Barris customized Camaros
« on: April 09, 2012, 04:46:49 AM »
I saw this January '67 ad from Courtesy Chevrolet in Los Angeles which seems to indicate they had 50+ customized Camaros on hand, modified by
George Barris. Anybody know anything more about them?

Having had some experience with the hyperbole employed by dealers in the L.A. area over the past 50 years, I'd be inclined to believe that they may have had 50 Camaros in stock, total.  How many were already subjected to the Barris treatment would be anyone's guess but 50 customized cars would have been a stretch, even for Hollywoodland.

My 2 cents - might have been those paisley etc. vinyl "mod tops".  Here's an old discussion thread:

I posted something a while back questioning a 1968 Z28 with modifications for OMS ( Ontario Motor Speedway ) from Courtesy Chevrolet in Los Angeles and got no where. The Z28 is still around here and it is still owned by the original owner. It came with a molded in rear spoiler and the side vents on the Qtr panels behind the doors and the flares on all 4 wheel wells. The car was British green and you could clearly see where the outline of the side vents were and the flares because of the faded paint, at the time I saw it the rear spoiler trunklid was replaced. When I could not get any info on this her story seemed weak but after looking at this whole thread and seeing the actual drawings and adds of the vents and flares I think it all adds up. She paid a pretty penny for it back then right off the showroom floor. I will have to try and contact her and see if it's still for sell. That would be a cool restoration now that you can clearly see what was available and correct at the time, I  really thought it was a closed case when no one could verify her story.

Did that '68 look anything like the one below? Sorta sounds like it.

The Z28 was stolen and the flares and side vents as well as the molded rear spoiler was taken off right away. She has pics but has to find them, no hood scoops on the hood  it was a flat hood with the Z28 stripes in white. I wish you would have responded to my original post back then, I would have tried harder to get this car. I bought a different 68 Z28 with paperwork and #s matching but if the price is right I might entertain another.

Sorry, I missed that post. Would be neat if you could find the pics and maybe the car again.
