Without the VIN, how are you going to know when you've found the car? I don't think there is any place you can "start" without the VIN or knowing who you sold it to other than possibly jogging someones memory that bought the car from you. Possible, but I'd say you are probably out of luck. Don't mean to sound so negative. I guess the only place you could try was WVa. DMV and see if they've got records that old. A very long shot, but worth a try.

Rocco, welcome to the site and agree without the Vin # it's going to be an up hill battle. Maybe try starting with the person you sold it to, or perhaps your brother going through some old insurance paperwork to find the Vin. Best of luck in your hunt for the old Z.

Rocco, in 2001, I was able to get the vin of the Z/28 I owned in 1975 from the local tax office. CT assesses property tax on automobiles and they had the records.

You may want to tell us your brother's name, the name of the dealership that sold it new and what town it was in. Maybe a protect-o-plate stayed with the car and that info could then help it be traced to you.

A few other things you can do, look at your states DMV records process. If you can remember the plate, or your state logs your vehicles against your license number and you are still licensed in that state you might get lucky. Also look for old check registers, you might have placed the vin in the memo when registering it or paying taxes.

Maybe the guys parents can ask some family members if they remember who/where the car was sold to?? Sounds like you've gotten a warm lead...
