1969 Fuel tank Replacement

I have been reading past posts about fuel tanks. Just like to hear what the latest opinions are on which tank would be best to use for a correct car.

I didn't ever know that gas tanks had codes. Mine id covered with factory/ dealer installed undercoating. Where is it located?

Perhaps I should clarify my question.

1. Is Stainless steel preferred over stock steel galvanized? which one fits better etc..
2. Is there a better quality manuacturer than others?

I've used to search for tanks supplied by GM unfortunately they usually had a lot of damage and shelf wear. I think the company that suppilied them was Canadian. Anyway I'm very happy with the tanks I've gotten from Ron at MCCP 815-648-1700 . They look identical to the orig and I believe his supplier is the one GM used at one time.

There is a comapny in Canada called Spectra. I have not used them, but I did see a tank on a really nice original big block Camaro and it looked great. Here is their link.

Yes Spectra is the company. I've used quanta as well but prefer the Spectra tanks.

Hey Steve waht are the main differences between the two tanks. I think Quadra is galvanized and Spectra are stainless. What is the price differerence and why do you prefer Spectra?

My Spectra is not stainless.

I have a spectra in my 69 and it looks and fits nice. They're priced well too I think. I just got the EFI version for my 68. They are both galvanized steel.

Interesting. I thought they advertised the tanks as stainless. I must have been mistaken.

Stainless would be difficult to stamp into that shape without some die and material work. And that wouldn't be cheap. Not sure how well it would seam with the current seaming process either.

Quality replacement tanks are Ni-Terne coated steel, not galvanized.
