350 L48 Power Plant ?
« on: December 02, 2010, 02:22:46 PM »
The L48 350 small block first appeared in 1967 and was rated at 295hp. In 1969, the power out put changed to 300hp & 380 ft lbs of torque.  Can someone explain what GM did to increase the out put. Was it simply changing to a Hyd Cam, a 4bbl Quadrajet, a 4 Bolt Main & Cust Pistons or is there more to this story?

Thanks

I didn't think there was any difference. Chevy just changed the rating. 295 HP was an insurance rating thing. Sort of like the 302/290 HP rating. Not sure though.

Can someone explain what GM did to increase the out put.

In those days, published power ratings were determined more by Marketing and internal GM politics than anything else; searching for any logic in how they were rated is an exercise in futility. :-)
