1969 Camaro RS/SS or Clone ?
« on: July 22, 2010, 09:02:12 PM »
Hello Camaro Lovers,

I live in Ga and I have been looking at first generation camaros for a few years now. I finally got the go ahead to get a camaro so I wanted to touch base with other camaro owners before I purchase my new toy.

Im wanting a 1969 SS and have been reading about them online but Im still confused on a few things about them. I will be posting some questions in the other forums and any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated.

Im looking at this vehicle on Ebay but Im confused because according to the trim tag it was born at the Norwood plant.

My question is that I thought I read somewhere that all Camaro SS optioned cars from Norwood would have X code designation on the trim tag.

The Vin number is as follows -124379N531751

The Ebay link is below:

 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...WAX%3AIT#v4-38

Im looking to purchase a real 1969 Camaro SS or RS/SS to enjoy and to maybe increase in Value so Im wanting to make sure Im buying the real deal.

Any help you could give me would be appreciated.

Thanks !

Your link above doesn't open up correctly; however, that VIN (124379N531751) is too early for a Camaro with a "X" code.

More info here...    http://www.camaros.org/numbers.shtml#XnnCodes

Graycamaro, I too wanted a RS SS or SS Camaro and it took me 14 months and alot of research and homework to finally decide on the exact car for me. Thank God for this site and it's members that know there stuff and are willing to share and give you some of their insight. Look and learn everything you can BEFORE you purchase the car of your dreams. I own a 69 RS SS coupe #s matching Camaro, a 69 SS #s matching convertible Camaro, a 08 SRT8 special edition 426 Hemi Challenger, and on the verge of purchasing a 68 Z28 Camaro God willing this weekend. I love all my cars and drive each one not really interested if they grow in value but only that they keep my interest. Enjoy your new Camaro when you buy it and it will put a smile on your face every time you look at it, I know mine does.

You only find X codes on 12B and later cars. I have 2 SS cars but proving it without documentation or maybe a matching numbers big block can be tough. Small blocks can also be SS cars but a matching number big block is definite proof.

Hell0,

Thanks for your help guys.

Hopefull this link will work below.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320562497749&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT

Im trying to read as much as I can so I can make a smart purchase. So much to learn and to look for to make sure your buying the real thing. Im in my 50's so I have to watch out overloading my memory banks or I could lose something important.

I think what Im going to do is try to find what I want and qualify it the best I can then see if I can get an expert in Camaros like you guys to look at the car with me for your opinion. Its worth paying a consulting rate to get expert advice.

Thanks again for your help.

If the date code on the block indicates it is not a restamp I would bet it is the real deal. At any rate it looks like a nice car with nice options.

graycamaro -

If you are serious about this car, you need to contact Jerry MacNeish (410-781-0418) and have him check it out for you.

Now that you have the correct link posted, I see one big red flag; the car has the wrong interior per the cowl tag!

Good luck and proceed with caution!

What's wrong with the interior? 712 is black custom correct? Is it because it has houndstooth? or should have comfort weave?

Correct, it should have comfort weave (712) per the cowl tag, not houndstooth (713) which is what is in the car...    :(

Small block a/C suitcase, has the later full width spoiler should have the shorter 68 style spoiler in October of 68.

Good to know. He probably went to houndstooth for lack of finding the correct comfort weave. Is anyone doing correct comfort weave these days? I noticed that the auction for the car has ended. I wonder if graycamaro got it.

graycamaro,

Frist, congrats on getting approval to buy one! That's great. Secondly, I want to echo the suggestion to get Jerry to check out any car before you buy. He saved my butt big time...

Best of luck,
