GM oil pan 3879633 any info or pic(s)
« on: January 22, 2010, 02:06:08 PM »
Believe I dug one of these pans outta the attic,  so to speak.  Conflicting info on sites as to them being where from / replacement part / ..
Does anyone have a pic or pics of the outside and inside of this beast they could put up?
Also pic of the correct windage tray pls.
Thanks!

The pan you have is a 6 quart over the counter that was sold in the Heavy Duty Chevy parts book only back in the day.  Its a legit GM pan. They will fit 69 Camaro, Nova, Chevelle. The windage tray or baffle as they called it is part number 3879640 semi circular tray. These are very rare. They installed these pans in Giibbs high perf Novas and Camaro. Check out ebay, Chevy windage tray, there is one right now for sale. I just paid 400.00 for one on ebay. These parts are bringing in big money. The oil pan had a deep sump with one baffle design.

We used to stock this pan at Miller Chev when I worked there in the early 1970's.  Had a mating oil pump with welded pick up that went with it.  Did not sell many.  Might have been factory installed on the L88 Vette?  Never factory installed on the Camaro,m Chevelle, or Nova SS.

Jerry is exactly right. These pans were never installed on factory Camaros, Novas, Chevelles. I was told from an excellent source that Fred Gibb Chevy perf installed these pans after modifcations. Go to Supercar Registry Bulletin board and there is a complete thread and history on this pan. I have two of these pans and a windage tray and oil pickup tube and screen that goes with it also.

1969 Chevrolet parts catalog lists in "Heavy Duty Operation Parts for Passenger, Corvette and Camaro" the following:

GR 1.426  3879633  PASS (396, 427)    PAN ASSY, OIL (Deep Sump) (6qt)

This style oil pan will not fit Camaro Chevelle or Nova (will not clear front subframe, may fit Corvette)

Thanks guys for your help.. I am gonna keep in touch on the PM as I have a few parts that continue to escape me knowledge..  Will take a couple of pics of the pan (outside and inside) and post 'em during the week if okay.
Kinda interesting GM got into modifications like this cutting the bottom off a stock pan and re-welding on an extension of sorts..

USER 3965175 you are wrong about this oil pan application. This oil pan was used by Gibb perf cars after original blown motors, 396 were pulled, and this pan was used in place of the factory 4 quart. Go to the Supercar Registry Bullentin Board and read up on this pan and its history by the guys who used thses pans on their Novas and Camaros. I believe you are the same poster who posted on the Supercar board and said these pans were never made by Chevy, sorry you were wrong then and wrong with this application.
