Were the original tailpipes parallel to the ground, tilted down or tilted up. The AIM shows a distance to the body only.

For 69's, they were straight out the back and parallel to the ground.

I agree - the reference lines (in section N10, sheet A5 in the A.I.M.) through the tailpipes indicate that they're parallel to the ground.
