1967 SS350 Convert Insurance Value?
« on: March 31, 2006, 05:09:14 PM »
I need to renew my insurance with Hagerty and I am investigating what value to declare.

I have a 1967 SS350 Convertible, 3spd manual, 70K original miles, ground up resto, matching #s, power disc brakes, fold down rear seat, wood steering wheel, base interior, AM radio, Butternut with black interior/top. It is currently insured for $21k.

1) Any recommendations as to its value??
2) Any recommendations for an appraiser in South East Michigan??

Thanks in advance for your help!

Try Top Hat John (John Jendza), www.tophatjohn.com - he does most of the hot-rod, custom, classic, and exotic appraisals in the metro area, and has for many years.

Do what I do. Just put a value on it as to what it's worth to you. I usually ad $10000.00 to what ever I paid for it or have in it. I have State Farm and my agent told me that he has had cases where people don't insure them for enough and the company will notify him and have them increase coverage. I have $50000.00 value on my 1969 SS350 and it only cost me $17.00 a month for full coverage.

I have my '67 RS/SS convert insured for 30k (and it may be under valued).  It's a #'s match car, but not a frame off resto; just a nice local car show cruiser.  You can take a look at www.nada.com for a value guide/estimate.

John's advice to get it appraised is best.  If you have someone like Tophat John appraise it, then you do know what it is worth.
But you are under insured.  NADA and Gold Book value a car of your desciption for more than $21k.  The average price for ALL 67s on Hemmings is $5k more.  There is a car similar to your description on Hemmings that is asking $47k!
They aren't making any more of them (except clones, etc.), so ask yourself the age old insurance question:  What would it cost you to replace it?
