Ben Wenzel, MacNeish Qualifiying Session
« on: August 04, 2009, 01:54:26 AM »
Here's a couple of photos from last week at the NHRA Columbus, OH divisional points race.  Ben and I got to go down the track together in qualifying.  Two Tahoe turquooise '67 Z28's going down the track together.  That is something that you won't see everyday.

Had a great time out there with Ben and Dave Wenzel.

Jerry..

Cool shots! What did your new car run compared to the Wenzel car (which if I recall is or was in the low 11.7's at around 123mph or so - last I looked)?
A friend and I attended a race in Jolliet a couple of years back and met the Wenzels between rounds and had a chance to look over their car and learn more about it's very interesting history and it was awesome.
I must admit they were a bit put back by all of the questions I posed initially, but once they found out we were just Northerly neighbours from across the border and not snooping competitors (and the fact that I had a Z 28 myself probably helped) they were very accomodating and patient with us.
Do you feel you car will be competitive enough to aim for running it at INDY?

Thanks - Randy

NICE WHEELSTAND! First pics of the car I've seen in action! Took your advice and registered. This happened to be the first post I saw. Hope to make it up there soon.

On that pass, I went a 10.91 at 121 mph, Ben went a 10.81 at 122.  Tuning a Z28 in the mid west air can be difficult.  No Barometer in Columbus.  I did figure some things out and eventually I went 10.86 for a best.  Bens best was a 10.79.  This was in 3300 feet of air.

I did go four rounds in the eliminator and after looking at the division one points standings, I'm in 18th place out of 177 racers in Stock Eliminator with four more races to go!  So, I do have a good chance to finish in the top 10 in our division.......or better.  Stay tuned.

Ben & Dave did win the Jegs All Stars race this summer and was on national TV.

Yes, Englishtown points race the weekend of Sept 12.  But there's a problem.  The Fireballs have a gig in NM on the 10th so I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it to the race or not.  I will try.

I am in the NHRA division one points case now (18th out of 177 racers in Stock) and every points race that I can make is important.

Jerry- Have you thought about a video chronicling your fantastic 1st Gen racing efforts. I live too far away to likely see you run, but would surely pay for a video; seemingly others would as well. Just a thought!

Might go to Indy to watch if I can make the time.  Other races on the agenda are Cecil County Points race next week, Englishtown Points race Sept 11-13, Charlotte, NC National Event Sept 17, Atco Points race and Dutch Classic.  Might go the west coast if I do well at these events.

I also want to record good video of the new car but I have to find someone good to shoot it.  There is amateur video of the new car at the Virginia Points race in Petersburg earlier this year.  Google my name and it should pop up.
