I am trying to figure out how the grill was attached to the valence in a 68 standard grill.  I tried to cross reference an Aim part # to AMK and they didn't list it.  Then Sonet found what looked like his original bolt in AMK and the part # was very close to the AIM part #.  What I'm wondering is:  Could someone with a P&A see what GM # 9419303 is?  The # for the bolt in the AIM is 9919303.  I thought this could maybe be a typo?  Or maybe someone with a better copy of a 68 AIM could tell me what theirs says for part #12 on page 138.  UPC 11-13  A6.  Thanks.

Under the compatability numbers on the AMK listing for the B-12081 screw, it actually shows the # 9419303.   This is on page 78, 4 rows down and on the very right.

I know this is not the same number but is is close.   The Classic Muscle catalog shows the screw #9419303 as being the one to attach the lower grille to the valence.

My '68 AIM shows the screw in question to be part number 9919303 (UPC 11-13,  sheet A6).

Yes Paul, that's where I got it.  But when I tried to match it up on AMK, they don't have that #.  Then Sonet found a part that looked like the one that # was for and it was 9419303.  I got to thinking it could be a typo and I would reallly be looking for 9419303 and I would be one step closer to getting this valence panel to the grill question solved.  So far, I'm not having a lot of luck.  It's one of those things I wish we could get some answers on to add to the CRG references.  The more the better.

9419303 Was superceded to part# 9419305 in Jan 1975. Other supersessions to this # are 9420755,9422601,9421302,9421303, and the most current# of 9440166. Cory

Just so you will know that all the rest of us 68 guys are not ignoring your question, I've looked through two P&As in three different places and come up with nothing.  Even if I had, the service part number of the P&A would not necessarily correspond at all.  Page 138 in my 68 AIM is clear as a bell and it says "12 9919303 SCREW".
The P&A does not address information in the exact same manner as the AIM, so it is sort of like looking for a needle in a haystack.  I would suggest that you contact Ed and ask him.  He is a wizard in finding #s in the P&A.

I did find an exploded view of the 67-68 grille that showed the hole in the valence that the screw goes to, but no reference to the screw.  That view does mention a few bolts but it does not give a part #.  It references their size.  The AIM gives a better description of assembly...

JohnZ helped me see how this works (or doesn't) some time ago in some of his posts to my questions and comments.  I still find the P&A, etc. helpful in figuring out repairs/replacements, but I guess four decades later we do not have a better cross-reference than "grunting it out" exactly like you are doing here in CRG.

Well, there was a small amount of concern that the 68 issues were ah, maybe uninteresting, but I knew someone would eventually answer.  Thank you very much Phillip.  I just wanted to make sure I wasn't chasing a number that didn't exist!  It seemed as though that was possible as mentioned above.  I was looking for exactly the info you gave.  I can assume that the part #'s 9919303 and 9419303 were two actual and different numbers.  So yes, you did help.

As for the grill.  That is the dilemma I am having.  The AIM shows the screw and bolt and their part numbers.  When I asked about this in other posts I was told by two people that theirs were attached with a U-bolt and screw and another that had his riveted from the factory.  So far no one has come forward to say theirs had the bolt and nut attachment that the AIM shows.  I was hoping for more feedback to try and get a consensus about this and maybe some in-depth research to come up with some sort of practice of how and when grills were attached and when it might have changed.  Of course this would benefit me, but I was hoping it could benefit all 68 owners that were trying to get their cars back to factory, if that's what they wanted to do.

Little more info.....found where the #9419303 screw is referenced in the AIM.  It is used to connect the lower portion of the grille to the valance in the "RS" grille. The spring nuts associated with this screw is #9422836.

Also in the "RS" there are two pieces to the grille, middle section and lower section and these two pieces show to be riveted together and then the lower section is connected to the valance with the above referenced hardware.  This may account for the one person stating that his was riveted.

No luck yet on the #3919303 screw and #3846854 nut.

It was Pex 68 and I believe his is a standard grill like mine.  I've gotten feedback elsewhere, that some early standard grills were riveted from the factory
