68 350 SS Air Cleaner Assembly
« on: June 24, 2009, 03:36:32 PM »
What would the correct AIR Cleaner Assembly be for a 1968 Camaro SS 350?

Thought it was an Open Element with perhaps a PCV inlet in base. What engine used that set up if not a 350 SS?

I have come across the Air Cleaner Below. I believe it to be a 1968 version but would like to confirm this.

It has the snorkel facing the drivers side and it is for an Automatic. It has the chrome lid for an SS.

I have always heard that the closed filter housings that had a rectangular hole on the base (shown in the pic on the right side) was specifically for a 1968 model.
Is this true?

That looks correct to me John, except I'm not sure about the rectangular hole.  But then again, I have a manual trans.

I assume the Rectangular hole is for something displayed in the AIM associatd with the PCV Valve.

Does anyone have a good page in the AIM that depicts this? Page 102 or UPC 6 - Sheet C7

My AIM is not readable in the center of the page enough to decifer this.

Thanks for all the help

I am missing the airfilter that attaches to the side of tha air cleaner assembly. The filter was replaceable and now is offered as a reproduction:

http://www.rickscamaros.com/product.asp?pf%5Fid=EP%2D103&dept%5Fid=3152

Depending on where you buy it from I have seen it offered as black or white housing. Which color would be correct for my apploication?

Thanks for all you help.

If you're talking about the hole at the back of the base opposite the snorkel, my AIM shows a nipple that goes to a hose that connects to the passenger side valve cover.

As soon as I can get to a scanner, I'll send you a couple of pdfs of illustration pages that show what 68Zproject has described.
