What Number was the first convertible?

So does the market show these have any additional value or should be restored in any different way?

Any documentation or information available, such as what was the first convertible VIN?

IMHO, no. They may have some additional interest for some. Both #1 '70s are around, the #1 Norwood 68 is also.

Cars that carry VIN #1 are far from the first built. Back in those days pilot units were built, tested and evaluated months before production start-up. Some were scrapped, some later got a VIN assigned and were sold. There is a '68 around with a June '67 body tag date.

VIN #1 wasn't the first car built, but it was the first saleable car.

The market has said there is a premium, but how much of a premium depends on the buyer more than anything else.

Where are you seeing these codes?

Thanks!

Kurts- After discussing with the owner those were decoded from the Vin and by inspection

William- What can you tell me about N100001 I have found body 001 with Vin 016 that sold at the Barrett Jackson sale in 2007 but no lower production cars.

Also my feeling is that Vin 013 with body 013 would be more important than body 001 especially since Norwood was more consistent with their bodies and supposedly 2000 or so cars were made there before LA came on line...Anyone disagree?

The first photo is a tag from the right door panel, the second shows the car has been repainted. Unfortunately the cowl tag picture didnt turn out an I have not made it back to the car yet.

How does N000001 have a second week of September build with body 860 when N000013 has a second week of May build date and body 013

Did they restart the numbering back to zero at some point for actual production cars?

So based on the build date could 013 be the oldest known car?

The May built ones were probably pilot cars, built off line at Norwood, remember they were still building chevy IIs (Novas) at Norwood in May of 66, and it probably didn't have a VIN assigned to it at the time of its actual build.  Obviously there are at least 13 of these pilot cars out there with way early assembly dates, some of them may have been held around and released for sale when actual production started in late August of 66 and the VIN was assigned at the point the decision was made to make it available to the puiblic.

Body numbers are not in numeric order on a day to day basis, they do generally increase with the VINs.  GM sent Fisher orders for cars based on availbility of partsand orderes on hand.  These orders were assigned the Fisher body number at that point, but Fisher was free to produce them in any order that made sence to them, like grouping of one color car together therefore the body numbers get shuffled around within each days production.  The 860 body number car might have been pulled forward by the Fisher scheduler (GM scheduled 912 cars a day thru Norwood) because there was a batch of gold cars (860 is a gold car) being painted first that day, and it just happened to be the first body that made it to GM that day and it got the VIN 100001 assigned when it got there.
