Is This 12 Bolt Rear End A Restamp?
« on: March 15, 2009, 02:09:26 AM »
Date K 5 7 Axle code is BE 11 28G2 as copied and pasted from the auction. That means a late 1967 casting correct for a 1968 model car. But, I do not see any BE code axles for 1968 in my books. Looks like the BE code was not used until 1969. Could this have been assembled that early? It is listed on this site as a 2.56 axle for 1968 but no books support that. What gives?

As you stated, in 1968 "BE" was a 12 bolt 2.56 open shown on the AXLE page. A lot of books don't show it for 68, but it was used.

"BE" didn't become a 4.10 Posi until the 1969 model year.

One correction: BE is a 68 axle code, but we've never seen one in a car. Not to say it wasn't used, but we've never seen one.

Well, if that axle on ebay really is K-5-7, then that gives more credence to it being used in 1968.
