Is it known approximately what percentage of 69 Z28s had power steering. Would it be correct to say that most did not? Looking through Jerry Macs Z28 book, I could find only 1 Z28 that had power steering and that was a highly optioned employee order car. Additionally, most if not all the Z28 "barn finds" on Team Camaro are manual steer cars. One last question, the RPO spread sheet states that 2161 cars had the "special fast ratio" N44.  I'm assuming that number does not included Z28s as they recieved N44 as part of the Z28 package. Is that correct?  Thanks, John

I have personally owned (6) 1969 Z/28's so far in my life and three have been manual and three have had power steering. I t has been my understanding that the majority produced were manual.

According Michael Antonick's Camaro White Book, there were 141,607 of the 243,085 '69's made with the N40 PS, and 2161 with the N44 quick ratio PS.

Prehaps someone can confirm this?

Power steering is not unusual on a 69 Z/28. I'm 1 for 3.

N44 is easily misunderstood. All it amounted to for the most part was steering linkage changes; shorter steeing arms and a longer pitman arm used in conjunction with the standard manual steering gear. However you could order a Z/28 with N44 and that included a faster ratio steering gear in addition to the linkage changes. It was far too stiff for everyday driving and even Trans-Am racers complained about it. Penske occasionally fitted his cars with power steering.
