1967 302
« on: January 14, 2009, 05:13:08 AM »
i was recently assembling the 302 for my z and noticed that on the top of the block behind the intake there is a hole about 1 1/2 inch in diameter and to the left of it there is a 3/8ths threaded hole. what is this used for? this is not the hole for the distributor, the intake does not cover it. usually there is a smaller hole there for a oil preasure line. any ideas?

It's for the CRANKCASE VENT CAN (more realistically, an oil separator can).

1967 was the last year for these and you should have something in your spare parts box that looks like the device in the link above.

HERE'S a link showing more pictures and a great explaination from John.

Paragon Reproductions (www.paragonreproductions.com) sells the vent tube for 1967 302 engines, depending on whether or not you have a California emissions car. Assembly is shown in the RPO Z28 section of the 1967 Camaro factory assembly manual.

This is also called the road draft tube and yes it was replaced for the 1968 model year by the more conventional PCV system.
