87 TPI for my 307
« on: June 22, 2008, 10:48:07 PM »
I picked up a supposedly complete TPI from an 87 firebird in Carlisle. Came with a lot but I know I'm going to need more stuff. Plan is to put it on my 307, and when the chance comes along to pick up a good deal on a 200r4 to back it up. Will start cleaning and cataloging parts tonight to see what I do and don't have. I know the center head bolt angle changed in 87 so at a minimum I will need to elongate those bolt holes. I am thinking I can put an external pump where the transverse muffler would normally go, and reroute the exhaust. Has anyone else been through this? I think the 87 distributor will clear the firewall, unlike the earlier TPI systems. Lots of questions, lots of unknown, some time, little change. This will be a long slow process. If anyone has done this I would love your input. The question for tonight is does anybody sell a jig to drill out the manifold holes to fit my 69 heads.

I put a 89  set up on my 85 Monte Carlo SS. Just use your die grinder with small cutter on it & just keep checking it. You will have to have the Vats removed from the chip so it will start. There are some good swap books out there that are a must. A guy that goes buy TPIPARTS has about everything you will need. To use the small distr. you will need to change the plug ins, no big deal. Street & Proformance also has a lot of custom parts to help you.
