Early 67 Z/28s
« on: February 09, 2006, 02:35:09 AM »
I remember seeing a very early 1967 Z/28 Camaro, without stripes and it had a 302 emblem on the fender.  That was in early 1967.  I have been told by many that they only came with stripes and badges.  Can anyone clarify my sighting.  It was a light metalic blue with rear spoiler and flat hood.
Oh yes I forgot.  I am an old member who hasn't been around for a while, but I am back in the hobby with a 1968 Camaro.

The 1967 Z/28 did not have any emblems.  The early 1968 Z/28's had the 302 emblem on the fender and changed from the 302 emblem on the fender to Z/28 on the fender mid year.  I don't remember the time frame for the change.

The Z/28 emblems came along mid-February, 1968.  I have an original '68 Z with a third week of February build date and it has Z/28 emblems.

Thanks guys it must have been a 1968 that we saw.  I remember it did not have stripes though for sure.   And it was a light metalic blue.

Are you sure about this? My 68 Z was built the 4th week of February and it has the 302 emblems and not the Z/28 emblems. I believe Jerry MacNeish's 1967-1968 Definitive Camaro Book also states that the 302 Emblems were used through out the entire month of February and the Z/28 Emblems didn't make an appearance until the first week of March. Can someone verify exactly when the 68 z/28 emblems first came along?

My '68 Z/28 (03A), Norwood car, has 302's on the fenders.  I also know of a 03B Norwood Z/28 with 302's.  Personally, I have never heard of or seen any Z/28's after 03B having 302 emblems.  I think this matches Jerry's book which says the Z/28 emblems were introduced in mid March.

Sorry, guys, my brain was out to lunch when I said my '68Z was a mid February car.  It is an 03D and has Z/28 fender emblems.  My problem is I am old and have too many Camaros built in the first three months of their respective years.

Having too many Camaro's doesn't sound like a problem to me ;)
