Hello,

I've recently run across a 67 Camaro with no transmission designation on the trim tag and it has a 4N code for an SS 396/325. Am I correct in assuming that it came with a TH400 originally? If so, how rare is that compared to a manual trans. combo with the 396? Thanks, Dan

There were 1453 T400s built in '67. The 396 325 was the onlly engine to get a T400. Could not get a powerglide with the BB. My MArch 325hp does not designate the transmisssion on the trim tag either. Wouldn't be a bench seat column shift car would it??

The trim tag has 742-z for red deluxe bucket seats, and 2G for a console, so no column/bench. The car was used for bracket racing and the owner says it was a 4 speed car but it has a TH400 in it currently (probably has 4sp pedals in it). He sent me a picture of the trim tag and there is no 2L designation but it has the 4N. I was pretty sure the TH400 was all you could get for an automatic with a BB. Evidently the original engine is long gone, but the car has several options including: tinted glass, remote mirror,fold down rear seat, rear defrost etc. I'm sure most of those things if not all are long gone since it's been raced off and on since the 70's. The good thing is the body is preserved. I'm trying to figure out how much to offer for it as I think it could be brought back to it's original glory. Thanks, Dan

Not sure if there were any telltale holes or wires that might help you ID it. I know my car from new so I know what it once was. Maybe someone else will chime in? Being raced it may not have the original rear end to help ID.

Speedometer Hole in the firewall is where? If by the throttle it was a muncie. Otherwise t-400 Jeff

Sorry guys, but the car is 6 plus hours from me so I can't look at the known hidden clues (like a speedo hole). I'm trying to determine if it's worth the trip too look at it. My understanding of a 67 trim tag is, that in the case of an original 4 speed it would have a 2L designation. Since this car does not have the 2L, but had a 396 (4N), then it should be a TH400 right?
