What would be the functional difference between the service replacement in dave69x33's picture and the original 68 Z stick?  I have the replacement on mine and it always seems to read over full.

John's is 100% correct for the 69 Z28.  All should take note of this......and the 68 that was posted.  I'll check my 67 Z survivor this week.

I took pictures of my original dip stick and tube.

1969 z28 body build date 10D (October of 1968) LOS plant.

Dip stick reads: Add |                | Full           Engine oil  E

(The E is on its side)

I find it hard to believe that we can say absolutely - ALL Z/28's in 69 used the flat style stick.

I have pulled many a dipstick, and have found that both styles were used interchangeably throughout the model year.
The green tip, and the flat style were both being used in V8's at the same time with no particular reason.
Different vendors perhaps???

But unless the Z was different. and the flat chrome was used as a dress up item....
I would think they would be the same as all the other Flint V8's- both sticks used as was needed.

Both of those sticks have the same markings  with just some slight variation here and there.
And I have seen many base V8 models with the flat style used.
So I  really believe both sticks would be 100% correct.

I have even pulled some green tips in late 68 production impalas, Novas, and Chevelles.
All later replacements have the dimple in the handle.

I agree with Jeff on this one. Both sticks would have been used interchangeablely at Flint (and what I've seen on 69 SB's).

From what I understand the green tip was the replacement for the Camaro from GM until the late eighties early nineties. There is a crimped and non criped handle. This has been replaced by that yellow plastic handled thing.

The flatted steel must of had very limited use and are hard piese to find today.
