1969 Camaro Z28 shifter knob or ball options
« on: April 18, 2024, 08:02:40 PM »
Hello,

I was always under the impression the all ‘69 Zs came from the factory with a solid chrome shifter ball.

Was there any options available that you could order to get a wooden knob or ball ?

Thanks for your time,
Dave M.

Thanks so no wooden options available, either black or chrome in 1969!

Not 67/68 either. Or any other year that I am aware of for that matter.

This seems like a good opportunity to clarify something.

The chrome knob did not use the lock nut as used on the Hurst T-handle. I regularly see a lock nut under the knob, even on cars going through judging.

I assume they didn't have/need one to square up a shift pattern since it was on the console?

Exactly, there was no need for it.

While not needed, I suppose some would use it to keep the ball from loosening/spinning?

The chrome knob just needs to be snugged up via strap wrench.

Is that the blue RS Z/28, William? (124379N660403) Not sure if the sale didn't go through or there is some buyer's remorse with that car.  Just sold on Bring A Trailer on March 23rd for $97,500 with lots of questions about the drive train.

It's just mind boggling that people with excess cash(100k) will buy something without any verification.
