CE8P29107 Casting Number 3959512

Has anyone seen another warranty block stamped with the Letter "P" as part of the warranty sequence number?

I wonder if the "P" was suppose to be a "B", then there is the double numeric-sequence number stamp?

Show a photo of the whole pad and the casting date.

The P is probably for partial block, compared to a fitted block.  See below a couple of posts.

Check to see if there is anything stamped on the oil pan rail, especially near the oil filter area.  That should give us a clue as to how it was put together.

Need to know more - at least casting number and casting date.

I have not seem M used.

Options are

Complete assembly, partial block, fitted block, bare block.

Complete assembly is a long block.

A partial block is basically a short block - block, crankshaft, camshaft, timing gears, pistons and connecting rods.

A fitted block includes the block, pistons, wrist pins, rings and bearings.  I am not sure if the rods are included or not.

For this case, the SO might be the Service Order number put there by the dealer that did the warranty work.  I am not sure.

From a 2008 post on Team Camaro from John, Vintage 68.


CE units were supplied in three (3) levels;
1.) "Assembly" = what we would normally term a 'Long-Block'. (less; I & E manifolds, flywheels/flexplate, distributor, carb., oil filter assemblies, fuel pump, pulleys or fan, starter, bracket assemblies & etc...) - needed District approval to order. These 'assemblies' were normally available only for standard performance claim work - Special HP engines under warranty required Zone approval and were usually* serviced with only 'partial' and 'fitted' parts.
2.) "Partial" = what we would call a 'Short-Block'. (included; block, crank, rods, pistons, cam & timing assembly) - needed Zone approval.
3.) "Fitted" = a block casting with fitted pistons, rings and a matched bearing set. needed Zone approval.

HP units were never serviced as assemblies with heads - these were serviced as 'fitted' and 'partial' units ONLY - if a head was damaged, by say a 'dropped valve', it was replaced as an unassembled machined bare casting and then the useable parts transfered to it and the damaged parts replaced by service parts as needed.
The above applies to all warranty work done through the early 70's.
