yellow starter wire

First off,My car is still coil,not HEI
I bought a new engine harness (68).My old harness had a yellow wire but was cut short not hooked up.
car ran and started fine,now should I hook up the yellow wire on the starter,there is a spot at 9 o'clock position on starter,purple goes to 3oclock.Will it start better when car is hot? I don't want to try to fix something that was not broken

Yup, Hook it up. The yellow wire will provide a higher voltage to the coil positive terminal during starting/cranking when the coil is energized (pulled-in) by the purple starting wire from the ignition switch.

Now you got me wondering.. I found the other day when cleaning up the wiring that my yellow wire was fried by previous owner and not hooked up. Only the purple is hooked up to starter. I only have one small terminal on my starter for the purple and the 2 big ones for batt / ground for total of 3 terminals. I am running a Pertronix Flamethrower 2 distributor (previous owner as well) with a coil . Now Im not sure if I need to run a new yellow wire or not

I actually have a terminal on my solenoid for the yellow at 9oclock position(furthest from engine) just don't know why it was cut way abort and not used

It is best to connect the yellow wire to the starter solenoid because when bridged during cranking, it will send a full 12 volts to the ignition coil.

So to be clear, even running a Pertronix distributor with the coil mounted next to it, I still need to run a yellow wire from the R terminal to the + side of the coil right?
Currently, I have only the purple wire connected so Im not getting full 12V at start?

Does the "Pertonix" have an independent source of +12VDC source via the ignition switch or fuse block?

Im am going to dive into that later today and see what is actually on the + post on the coil. I didnt install any of it so Im working through how it is done. Another provided a link to read directions, but those directions are for a module. Mine is a stand alone flamethrower distributor and separate coil.

"To achieve optimum performance we recommend the removal of all external resistance"

If it started and ran okay with the old yellow wire disconnected, it'll still start and run okay with the new yellow wire disconnected.
