1967 L78 Window Sticker Analysis
« on: March 16, 2022, 01:25:24 AM »
Could you all help me compile a list of what my car came with and without when new?  Attached is a scan of my original window sticker.

The reason I bring this up is because I have seen another 1967 396 window sticker which includes options such as:
push button radio
735x14x2 ply w strp

Does this mean my car didn't have a radio or redline tires? Perhaps that other sticker is a reproduction? Did my car have F41 suspension?

Redlines were an option, iir? Standard tires would not showed up as an option if standard. Same with radio. If it had one, it would be on option list. no option=no radio

1969 SS 350 (sold)

From the chart here http://camaros.org/diffs67.shtml, redlines were standard with L78. 7.35x14 WS was optional (would be on window sticker).

So, no radio, did have redlines. I'm not sure about F41, I believe it was a separate option and would've been listed on window sticker.

Quite the car you have there! What condition is it now? Does it have the original drivetrain? What color is the interior? Any photos you can share, please?  :)

Black standard interior.
Original QB 4.56 rear still with car
Original engine located (current owners don't want to sell)
Complete Ownership history found
Currently tracking transmission

Attached photos are from original owner (with trophy on the hood) and now

So I'm wondering why the owners of the original engine wouldn't want to sell? It's of no special significance other than to the car it came in originally. Holding it hostage?

They just don't want to sell, it's of sentimental value to them. Also, they want the car.

So to recap:

No Radio
Yes Redline Tires
No F41

Thanks! Looks like I need to find a radio block off panel.

I was gonna suggest, they probably want the car! lol

Is some of that original paint? Will have to read though the SYC thread...

Anyway, nice find and thanks for the photos!

edit; BTW, J50/52 are excellent options as well. Somewhat rare on a 67, but certainly needed with that L78!

Took a good look at the firewall just to right of the vehicle center line(left of center from the photo perspective).  Looks like a cowl plenum cut out similar to what was available for the Z28's.  Or are my seasoned citizen eyes in error?
Can't say I've ever seen one on a big block other than my buddy's '68 that he bought as a roller about 20 years ago.  When he restored the car he made it functional.

Doug Perrys is the only known & documented big block cowl plenum 1st gen.

From post 58 in the Yenko thread, "Bruce enjoyed racing the car mainly at National Trails and making changes to help the car go faster at the track. He fabbed his own plenum air cleaner "to pull air right below the windshield" and even made custom wheelie bars for the Camaro at one point."

Very interesting read. Amazing detective work by Jose and friends! :D

When I first noticed the subframe and the 2 large access holes at the front for bumper extensions, I thought it was a 68 or later, BUT later noticed a lower control arm rubber bumper (driver side) mounted on the subframe, behind the upper control arm as they were in 67. So, I guess it's correct for the car. I didn't think 67 had the 2 large access holes up front. Did that change sometime during the 67 model year?

I see the hole but isn't it too small and in the wrong location to be factory?

I just spoke to Bruce Cremean the original owner to get clarification regarding the plenum air cleaner. He said, "Some of the Camaros and Chevelles had them so I went to the junkyard, pulled one off, and modified it to fit the Camaro! haha. I'd had traction bars made up for it to stop the wheel hop... Hell I'd do something to the car the next month they'd have an article in Hot Rod magazine showing how to do what I did! haha"

Bruce still has the air cleaner setup at his old house and says he'll get it for me when he can.
I hope this clears everything up for everyone.

Yep, cool (air)! I'd probably install it.

Thanks Darrell, both articles! :)

The filter housing and duct were also available over the counter at Chevrolet parts departments. Also, no firewall cutout from the factory. That was for self/dealer/mechanic installation.
