corvette bronze paint code update
« on: December 13, 2021, 09:37:10 PM »
Anyone found an updated paint code for "OO", corvette bronze paint code?   I found the PPG code, but it's not updated. 3 different automotive paint stores can't come up with it anything. Any help finding what is a match, with a different code?

You sure you wanted this as a poll?

You might try autocolorlibrary.com. When mine was done in 1988 all we could find was laquar from Dupont. It was an old paint store with older mixing charts...Joe

Forgive me as I must have deleted your pm (at least I think it’s you that sent it a while back).  Aren’t you in Lebanon?  I assume you had Jeff Blair or the other guy that works with him (can not remember his name at the moment) at American Autobody.

Obtain either a panel with original paint OR obtain a 1968 Chevrolet dealer album and have the large color chip scanned  for a color match - if it is metallic reduce the metallic content by 20% and color correct per tints in the formula.
Do a few sprayouts and compare - you will probably have to tweak it.
Pour off 10grams into multiple containers and then alter individual containers by fractions of grams - spray out  -check -
etc
etc

Call the color library of your preferred company. I do this all the time. They may have a lab match. Not all companies with codes will provide an adequate match. Shot 70442 sprayouts with PPG and used BASF instead because the match was better. Same with other cars and bikes I've done. Your jobber may not have a formula. That's why you call the color library.

Yes, I live in lebanon, Jeff lives two streets over from me. I've been doing all the work myself. I do collision repair also. It was put on hold for a year, but getting back on it. The list you showed me, I tried almost every shop to cross reference all of those paint codes. i finally found a paint store to mix me some, to compare to my windsheild post. I'm hoping to have it painted within about two months.

I try to start a new thread with my build status.

IS your windshield post not large enough to scan with the match camera?

Never an exact match unless you get very lucky. Still going to have to tint and do sprayouts. I've been down this road many times. That's why I call the color library first. I thought every shop owner knew this but I guess not. I've only been doing this for 40 years.

You are correct, however it will get you close if you drop about 20% of the metallic content and color adjust for the metallic drop.
This is how I color match for NCRS.
FWIW Camaro PAINT judging is nothing compared to paint judging in the NCRS.
They will kill you for too high metallic content 30% or more of the paint points GONE...
Also must appear as lacquer, with orange peel.
