X22 Date Code
« on: July 30, 2021, 02:13:22 PM »
Please look at the attached photo and tell me if this is a real trim plate or reproduction. Also, date code "09C", that could be 3rd week September 68 or 3rd week September 69 correct?

Third week September '69. Tag looks real but painted and wire brushed. Rivets are not original so it was removed and re-installed.

Have to determine if it was re-installed on the same car.

What’s the VIN? And check the partial VIN under the cowl vent cover to see that it matches.

Looks like the answer to that is no.

My main question is the 09C. 09=Sept and C= 3rd week. Well the 69 camaro were made in Sept of 68 and Sept of 69. So how would someone know when this trim tag was made? 68 or 69?

Fisher Body Norwood used 2 styles of body tags for the '69 MY. From August 1968 through early November 1968 the 'small tag' [4.0" x 1.62"] was used, same size as previous years. At that time the 'large tag' [3.5" x 2.0"] entered production. Both were used for a short time. The change in size was made to accommodate the addition of X codes, not immediately implemented.

As this September tag is the larger size and has an X code, it is calendar year 1969. 234 data points and the funky rivets very strongly suggests it was not originally installed on a car with a N690xxx VIN.

If the VIN is indeed 124379N690xxx, I dont think this tag is legit and is most likely a repop tag.

I know you guys are the experts on this subject, that's why I ask. What kinda made me hope it did come on the car is 09C is Sept 69, 3rd week. According to JM book, the 690xxx vin falls in the 3rd week of Sept. But I'm not disappointed either way. LOL
