Where to buy and validate the correct starter For 67 l48 rs/ss? Does anyone trust Classic Industries? Did the original use the straight or diagonal bolt pattern. What about the support bracket? Was the OEM starter and solenoid more resistant to heat soak or is that just a cheap reman issue. Thanks.

If you are looking for correct numbers the 1108338 is still fairly easy to find.  Diagonal bolt pattern on the snout - 168 tooth flywheel/flex plate used diagonal, 153 tooth used the in-line pattern.  I believe the brace is unique to the L48, and here's a couple old threads.  If buying a repro brace, be careful.  In the past I've seen some vendors listing their brace as correct for all SBC, which is not the case.

Need to match the brace to the flywheel diameter.

Larger diameter flywheel applications move the starter center line further away from the engine crankshaft center line.....so the brace needs to be longer to reach from the side of the block to the starter.

Damn, you guys are good. I have a 168 tooth for which I’d love to find a correct cover.  I have restored  with all correct parts but is not number matching, no mods except for front Dics to keep from killing myself. So where do I find this starter. Classic Industries says the one they list is oem for a 67 68 350 but my history with getting correct parts is not good. Thanks for detailed responses.

Take a short drive to Camaro Central in Richmond, KY. Talk mask to mask with the people behind the counter. It might be a more enjoyable experience than dealing with shipping companies if there is a problem. The last time I stopped by they had been remodeling their show room. I have always picked up more parts than I went in for.

If you are not matching numbers, the remanufactured ones are probably less than what you will pay for an 8338 core, and they should have some warranty.  Call them to confirm fit and ask who rebuilt it.  If concerned over heat, get a thermal wrap too.  I've seen rebuilt 8338s go for near $300, and cores well over $100 on the usual eBay, etc. if you decide to take that approach.

I assume you have a PG and need an under pan/inspection cover.  Some vendors list them as fitting SBC and BB, but my experience is many are unaware of the difference and what they sell is often for a 153-tooth flex plate.  You need the one listed for a 62-70 BB/168-tooth.  I got mine from Ecklers - their part number 166962.  Compared to a repro 153 tooth pan, it's overpriced IMO, but you know it fits.  Once an original pan is off the car, most don't know what it fits or the depth differences.  You'd need to confirm a used one came off a big block car.  Summit doesn't have a 168 cover, and JEGs has one listed as both 152 or 168 but bad reviews.  Good luck.

I have bought products from Classic Industries and haven't had a problem, although I have never bought a starter motor from them.  I did buy a starter that was rebuilt by AC Delco for my 1979 Trans Am in 1995 from O'Reillys Auto Parts and it is still working.  I believe that Summit Racing sells a rebuilt Delco starter motor for your 1967 Camaro:

Thanks guys. All good feedback. I’ve been looking for a torque converter/ flex plate cover for years and have probably returned 4 or 5 after being promised it would fit my car. Thanks for the tip. Haven’t received a catalog from CAmaro Central for a long while. Didn’t see their shop last time I drove around 64 heading south. BTW  I have a 1108380 starter, not to be confused with a 1108338 starter in my pile of parts..cant recall where it came from. It has a straight line bolt pattern ...point is ...if anyone wants it?
