« on: July 11, 2020, 02:57:41 AM »
Several years ago  i posted my 302 motor  late  build date of   10/24/69 . VIN  stamp  N 715xxx.  Below is a picture of the pad stamp.  Have any later dates turned up  now?

Judging from the rust pits on the machined pad, that engine appears to have sat in salty water for a few years?   Or do you know if the engine was always installed in the car?

PS.  There seemingly have been *thousands* of  DZ 302 engines produced since that one.. :)  ..  but not by the Flint engine foundry!~

This motor came out of a car , that was totaled in 1973. 18,000 miles. Sat in the car for another 10 years before i purchased it.  The car sat outside near the Chesapeak Bay.   The motor exterior was pitted but was like new internally.    Vin.   N710596

Thanks Don!    that explains the pits...   (I don't see rust and pits like that down here in Bama)...   I've bought engine parts that were lying in junk yards for 20 yrs with less rust and no pits...

Had to check my records that were packed away.  Were more DZ 302's built after this date  for  Z28 's,, or for warranty?

Only production engines were coded DZ. October 24 is the latest date known. Warranty engines were built to order and identified with a CE#.

Last '69 built at Norwood was N711922.

Probably a more general question on managing inventory across the board as the end of model year loomed, but presumably dealers would have stopped taking any further orders well before that last batch of DZ engines was assembled, so Flint knew exactly how many were required?

They were on about a 4 week lead time; probably orders shut off 10/1.
