Yellow Houndstooth interior is pretty rare too.

Yes, the yellow houndstooth is rare, probably more so than the orange (due to the pace cars probably), and either of those interiors can be a big 'shocking' when you first see one... :) ..  but they grow on you..  I really like them now!

That car might be a good car to 'restore' (in spite of the non-factory installed engine/trans), but whomever does it will need some deep pockets!

Probably less than 1,000 yellow interior cars & at least 3,675 orange. Both very wild as the late 60s were :)
One yellow interior car is enough for me. Too hard to find good interior pieces...Joe

What I find more amazing is that a car with liquid tire chain is not all rusted out!
Most cars that had this feature were in heavy snow belt areas and driven in bad weather! The body on this car looks great!

What makes it more unique now is recently finding the original dealer invoice and the fact it had some further options that made for it being a well loaded car.

NC8   Exhaust System; chambered 1,526 built
N33   Steering Wheel; Comfortilt    6,575 built
N34   Steering Wheel; wood-grain  683 built
VE3   Bumper; special front, 12,650 built
V75   Tire Chain; liquid   188 built
ZK3   Belts; Custom Deluxe 18,760 built
ZL2   Hood; special ducted   10,026 built

It had some neat stuff on it and I am working diligently to replace any missing parts as the restoration is already underway.

So here's a question for those of you in the know on 714 Yellow becoming an optional color for custom interiors?

I have one of the dealer sales catalogs with the sample swatches of vinyl, interior fabrics and paint colors. Last year I was told that the orange and yellow fabric is missing from many of them as it was a mid year addition to the options list and that it was not available until half way though the production year. With that being said, can anyone tell me when the first cars began showing up with 714 options and when did GM introduce this interior color to the dealers as an available option? Most of the yellow cars I am now taking note of appear to have later trim tags than this one and it's making me wonder what month this color actually came out or when the earliest cars were built with 714 interior? This one is an 02D build that shows it being shipped March 3rd of 69.

Thanks in advance...Graeme

I have a "Do you know" page dated February 1969 that talks about the orange & yellow.  On the back it has CC-69-2-9. I'll see if I can take a picture...Joe

Thanks Joe. Been noodling around here early this morning (couldn't sleep) and have found mention of a couple 02B cars being the earliest seen with 714. I have the original head rests from this car and the posts are stamped 12-9-69-2 which I found kind of interesting. Still trying to learn more about this love it or hate it interior code. As you know the options out there for interior restoration are varied. Last we talked I made mention that I received the samples from Al Knoch, well this week I received the other samples from SMS which are way better. Sample pics below versus color chip match in dealer catalog..

Yellow headrest posts from this 02D car.

Al Knoch samples. The yellow vinyl is hard to capture in this photo, but is more Canary Yellow with stark contrast (Darker).

SMS Samples. This is again hard to capture in a photo, but here the vinyl is a far better match to original. Seen better below.

And for entertainment purposes, here are the SMS swatches held up against the dirty old covers. The A & C swatches are the closest matches I have seen yet. Secondly, the SMS HT fabric is much heavier version than the Al Knoch material. I think it's a better match overall.

The HT material is very close, and is a nice heavy weight fabric.

Their yellow vinyl is more correct and a closer color match, but the grain is more open/wide than the stock Madrid.

Love/Hate (I cannot decide) lol

I agree Graeme,  the SMS fabric looks nearly perfect for the houndstooth.. and the bright yellow color goes well also...  Good luck with your restoration... can't wait to see it done!~

Back in the late 70's, right after I bought my 720/72B Z28-RS, there was another Z28 advertised in our local paper (and I always had to go and look/see... :)     It turned out to be an identically equipped Z28-RS to my orange/black car, except it was 714/76B Z28-RS (good condition for it's age of 7-8 yrs old and no rust) for $1900...  I would have bought it also, but my wife said if I did she was leaving... (maybe it was a baseless threat as she's been with me now for 50 yrs?).. :)

Well...it's been a year and the car is almost done now. Just need to finish fitting and installing the deluxe door panels and things are pretty much a wrap on a full frame-off restoration. Took about a year to do this one, and it turned out great with the Day 2 personality that it wears once again.
