Research on A/S Javelin
« on: April 10, 2020, 08:42:53 PM »
I know on occasion you let an AMC topic slip in here.  So hopefully this is OK.

I am trying to locate any pictures or anything on this AMC Javelin.  It drove in regional races in the north eastern portion of the states. Here is just about everything i know of the cars history.  The log books were lost.  Any information or pics would be very much appreciated if anyone happens to have something.

Years: 1978-1979 in A/S then GT-1 1980 - 1986
Drivers: Roger Hoodak and Tom Rotsell
Owner: Gordy Chilson
Number: 1, 4, or 44 (Those are the only two I have seen in pics)
Tracks: Watkins Glen, Lime Rock, Mid-Ohio, Summit Point, Bryer, Bridgehampton, Charlotte?  (Those are the ones I am pretty sure of but could be others)

Crazy front fender flair/curve on the trailing side.  Neat car.

No, I don't have any knowledge of the car but it is certainly cool and interesting.  Best of luck with the search.

Here is the section on their participation in the NASCAR Grand Touring/Grand American Challenge from the 10th chapter of the book entitled, The History of AMC Motorsports: Trans-Am, Quarter-Mile, NASCAR, Bonneville and More by Bob McClurg.

I dont think this is one of the Paschal Javelins but could have possibly been a regional stock car before converting to a road race car.  Will have to investigate that angle further.

Thanks

Maybe it began racing as Bob Hennig's Javelin?  Any knowledge of what the original color was?

Any tags on the cage? IF it does, you can back track its history/driver(s), and owners and class it raced in.
Just another T/A fanatic. Current lifelong projects:
1968 Olds 442 W-30
1969 Mustang Fastback w a Can-Am 494 (Boss 429)

And logbook number stamped into the driver's side B-pillar of the cage.
