1969 Z28 power brakes
« on: August 19, 2019, 11:23:22 PM »
I have a debate going on here.  Were power brakes mandatory on the Z28?  I know the front discs were mandatory. Did that include PB.

Discs always included power assist in 68 and 69.

Which brings up a question I've had for a long time. Why did Chevy offer manual disc brakes in 1967? Seems odd but it must have worked ok. I always figured disc brakes required more pressure on the brake pedal to make the brakes work which was why power brakes seemed to always be included otherwise.

Back in those days, power brakes were over-boosted; too sensitive. Many did not like power brakes, not a common option in the '60s.

I agree with William. Up until the late 60,s (69) power brakes were sort of rare. Of course my right leg worked a lot better then.

Agree;  it was strictly a matter of preference.

Just because a car has disc brakes, it does not really NEED power assist.  Case in point:  my 1970 LT-1 Corvette has four wheel manual brakes.  Came that way from the factory.  No PB and no power steering.
