1968 L88 Alan Green Car
« on: August 03, 2019, 04:01:01 AM »
https://seattle.craigslist.org/see/ctd/d/burlington-1968-chevrolet-camaro-l78/6947523331.html

Noticed this ad while cruzing the Seattle Craigslist.

I last saw this car at a 1980's local Tacoma car show. THis was owned by a PNWCC member. I recall the legend that the owner displayed the car with the original dealer conversion documents. Only to have the doc's lifted-taken stolen during some subsequent show. It was published (The Loss) in our PNWCC newsletter for members to Keep an eye out for the docs thru word of mouth or at some swap meets. It befuddles me to this day how-why of this loss. We heard the owner was very distressed by this loss the car was put away  and this is the first I have seen of it since 80's, & It looks just as I remember.

Neat car.

Jim,

That's sad about the original document being stolen during a show and the owners distress.
After reading what you wrote...when I'm ready to show my other 67 L35 I'm going to copy the UOIT and other tags found under the carpet that I am planning to display with the car instead of displaying the originals.

CORRECT, That is what Color flat bed scanners and color printers are for, not so much in the 1980's

Even to the point of keeping docs FIRE safe in the garage and home, Esp when they are very critical to the history of any vehicle.
A L88 in  (ANY) car of gocart-barstool is just nasty! (Cool).

I never thought of keeping our PNWCC club newsletter (Formed in mids 80's after the collapse of Western Wa Camaro Club debacle of 1979-1986)   if I had I would scan the article and post it.  I have ask a couple of old timer locals for their version of the story.

The description says it has 'iron heads', so it would not be an L88 ...  L78 upper end, so maybe the short block was replaced with a 427 short block (maybe even L88 short block?) but retaining the L78 heads/intake/carb??

Why you you say dubious history ?
No disrespect to car or owner, or even OP,  but what would you call a car that has no paperwork and no proof of history with a wild claim (true or not)? Not disputing the claim. Over and over, as you well know, guys on this site and Yenko say a car needs docs. If the owner’s assertions are all that back up this car’s history, and long time ownership can lend credence, then, while sad, there will always be a footnote of alleged which is why it fits my understanding of the word.

From Webster’s-Dubious:
1.   doubtful, “uncertain, unsure,” in doubt, hesitant; More
2.
“not to be relied upon”; suspect.
"extremely dubious assumptions"
synonyms:   suspicious, suspect, under suspicion, untrustworthy, unreliable, undependable, questionable;

I wonder if it could be documented that it "was" documented?

I would have thought that the owner from back in the day would have pursued alternative methods of capturing the history with vigor while many in the know were around, available and alive etc.  given the "dubious" effect of fuzzy history would negatively affect market value.

This dealer was well known in the PNW but not on the scale of the big three (four) nationally. Yenko, Nickey, Dana, Harrell

So as the saying goes, "IF" I was not otherwise committed to My 68Z project, I would get a bunch of cash and it would be in my garage for years of FUN! Keeping it local where it would be used and shown.

Hope it goes to a good home and some enjoys it as a street machine or does some real homework & hits a home run.
