2020 Corvette

What is your opinion on the upcoming 2020 Corvette, good, bad or?

i personally dont like it and I have many reasons why, but its here and cant change it. It will be interesting to see how the car does in say 6 month to a year. There is a huge wave of excitement and buzz so the first run of cars will easily sell, but when the newness (another question in itself, how fast will the newness wear off?) wears off how will the car sell then? Chevy is trying to woo the people looking at Ferrari's, McLaren's, etc and I just don't see that crowd being swayed to buy a Chevy over a prestigious super car brand. The lack of a manual option isn't surprising that has been the trend lately with the top level cars. Hope they have tested this new transmission better than the 8 speed auto used in a lot of cars right now. I am sad to see the front engine corvette go away. The corvette was America's sports car and it was done our way with the front engine and good ol pushrods going toe to toe with Europe's stuff. Now we are just falling inline and i don't think it will elevate the status of the car over the long run.

The good news is, that as opposed to Ford's GT, which raced as a GT, but was not in series production, the Corvette will be a legitimate international GT, per the correct interpretation of the rules for that class.

Let's be watching for the first C8 win!

I am glad they went with the mid engine. I like it better than the current Vette.

To be fair, Fords current GT's are legit qualifiers in the GTE series @ Le Mans. As for Corvette, its going to be a tough up hill battle to achieve a win. Why? Chevy/GM has no competition experience with a mid engine 'sport car' (2 seater) in any endurance racing. Ford has nearly sixty years experience (with the original GT-40s), even dominating the series until the FIA 'outlawed' them. That said, would I like to see Corvette win, absolutely. Its going to be expensive baby steps to achieve this. Porsche is not going to make it easy for Corvette.

My two cents:  I would have preferred a carryover C7 to be retained as an entry level model for a few years to overlap with the mid engine C8.  However that ship has sailed.  As with any new ground-up platform, there are bound to be teething issues.  And the mid engine C8 will likely be no exception.   The C8 is entering a super car marketing and racing arena where Ferrari, Lamborghini et al have battled for years and have their loyal following.  To draw interested parties away from those marques, the C8 must be brilliant right out of the gate.  Anything less could be a heavy blow to the ultimate success of the platform.

They say the 2020 production is close to selling out. I am hoping to get a call saying a left over 19 Gran Sport can be had for 25% off sticker. May never happen but maybe.
