1968 Camaro Factory Correct Bumper Jack Assembly

Hi Camaro experts:

There's been quite a bit of info tossed about regarding factory correct bumper jack assemblies for Norwood and LA-manufactured first-generation Camaros.  Per NCRS, I have a 1968 Camaro built on May 14, 1968 at the Norwood plant.  I'm trying to get it ready for judging competition and need some CRG expert guidance on the correct jack assembly/parts.  Specifically, I'm looking for help on the following:

--)  Correct length of jack assembly shaft or mast?.  I’ve gotten two measurements so far, 32 5/32” and 32 ½”;
--)  Did the shaft or mast have anything stamped on it?;
--)  Did the shaft or mast have a date code?;
--)  Did the rivet on the shaft or mast have a date code?;
--)  Did the load rest have "CAMARO 1968" or "CAMARO and then underneath "1968 UN" stamped on it?  I’ve seen both so I’m wondering which is correct;
--)  Did the tire iron have anything stamped on it?;
--)  Finally, I understand that the jack bracket assembly with shaft jack straps had a date code.  For cars manufactured in May 1968 would a proper date code be 8B, 8C, or 8D (Feb/Mar/Apr), i.e., 90 days before the production date? Finally, is 3919088 the correct GM part number for the assembly?

I really appreciate all the help/input and agree with another CRG member that given the various parts and manufacturers who contributed to GM bumper jack assemblies it might be time for the good folks at CRG to draft a section documenting for the record the factory correct assemblies with available options for first-generation Camaros.  Unfortunately, while helpful, FAIM page UPC 10 A2 doesn’t seem to cut it.  Many thanks in advance.  gwp4

Hi Joe -

Thanks for the link.  There's a lot of good information there.  However, I'm still trying to nail down the correct mast length, i.e., 32.5 or 32 and 3/8 inches and the width of the shaft type , i.e., thin, fat and t shape.  There were 3 vendors of the various shafts.  Does anyone know the names?  Since my car was manufactured on May 14, 1968, the base was trapezoidal with nothing stamped on the base.  Appreciate any help.   gwp4

I've never seen the "T" type in a Camaro. My 68 is from L.A. so it has the square type. The date is on the shaft. My 69 is Norwood so it has the trap type. It has a date on a rivet on the ratchet mechanism I will measure the one for the 69 because of the design. Hopefully 1968 is the same. Your car must be from Norwood...Joe

Measuring straight down the center of the mast, I come up with 32-5/32. Like I said, that's a trap design from a Norwood 1969. Need to find somebody with a known original 1968 Norwood...Joe
