Drop of oil at the steering column boot

Interesting......i was vacuuming out my 69 Camaro and i noticed a drop of oil was on the steering column round boot that meets up with the plastic firewall guard.  I have console gauges and looked at my nylon oil line, but it looked good...no leaks...

Where would the oil come from?  Any thoughts?

My first impression is brake fluid coming out of the cylinder rear and telegraphing down the brake pushrod and dripping onto the steering boot

It almost had the consistency of motor oil....hence the oil line suspicion.

You would think if the oil line was leaking I would be able to see / smell it.....ehh...whatever.  There's no oil on the carpet......anywhere.

I'll have to keep an eye on it...thanks.

On my 67 I keep a piece of a wee-wee pad under the oil gauge in the console and check it from time to time. If it leaks then the pad will absorb it instead of the rug. I get to it by removing the shifter bezel.

Maybe speedometer cable lube, if you've done any recent maintenance in that area?

If the car has an automatic transmission there is a good chance that it is transmission fluid coming up the cable. On the 350 and 400 transmissions you would need a new seal in the speedo adaptor and be sure there is not a groove worn in the speedo driven gear where the seal rides. On a powergide be sure the speedo gear adaptor has a seal, some do not have a seal. If it is a manual transmission it is less likely to be the speedo adaptor seal but still possible.
