Alignment to Weld Spring Perches

I have a 68 Camaro 10 Bolt Rear End that is out of my car. I cut off the mono leaf spring perches and am going to install multi leaf spring perches. I also found the attached diagrams in Forums.

I set the rear end differential cover surface to 90 degrees using an App on my IPhone. Then I snugged up the U bolts to set the spring perch angle down 6 degrees (or up 6 degrees if the rear end is up side down).

If this seems correct, my question is that the one diagram shows the spring perches angled in slightly yielding 88 degrees instead of 90 degrees. The spring perches I purchased don't move at an angle therefore they end up at 90 degrees.

Does anybody know if this is a problem or doesn't it matter?

Not sure but 2 degrees probably wonít make a difference.

I agree; besides a tiny lateral torque on the center of the leaf springs, it would have no effect, and I doubt you'll ever know of the issue...

Measure the spring mounts in the vehicle. Are they the same width front and rear?

There not the same, that's why the 2* angle is there. Important.

If it wasnít important, they would not have done it, I would think? Itís there for a reason, although it seems infinitesimal.

There not the same, that's why the 2* angle is there. Important.
Over a 48" length (~ spring length) that's about a 1.5" offset from rear to front.   Is that about what you measured as the difference between front and rear spacing Mike?   But it's only about 1/8-1/6" difference thru the 4-5" length of the spring perch.  With the rubber 'cushion/spacer' involved, I still think it would not cause a problem to mount the perches straight ahead... (ie. perpendicular to the axle).

When you're setting up a part, it's just as easy to do it 2 deg as 0 deg, but not so easy to mount a new perch at 2 deg for a 'hot rodder', and in hot rodding  I really doubt the 1/8" to 1/6" deviation of the perch as the spring goes thru it would matter (much).  Maybe the rubber cushion will 'wear out faster'??  When I cleaned up my rear end/springs/etc, I used the original cushion as it was good!

Is the weight on the suspension when you measured and set it up?
