« on: December 14, 2018, 05:15:03 PM »
Hey I saw this ad for a 69 smog pump on ebay. I know the're a lot of guys trying to piece back there system. Quite a bit included in the auction. I thought of Tim trying to disassemble his.
Not a bad deal, you may even offer less and get a better deal:

No mention of the date code on the pump (and I didn't see it in the photos), nor the PN on the pulley...   but it seems to be a good value for what is there..

Well that was my thoughts. Some guys ask the big money for this stuff. So if you just wanted it for looks or could use it to finish off a current set up, may be a good deal.

Did you guys notice the smog tubes have been cut off?

Its a lot of old junk.  Not even correct for a 69 Camaro.  Seized pump, wrong trees that have been cut off so no fittings, wrong bracket, wrong diverter valve, some extra bracket stuff.  Not worth much of anything.  JUNK!!!

I totally agree. IMO, he's got MAYBE $40 - $50 bucks worth of usable parts there.

Man you guys are tough to please.
I still think it could be a good deal since it can be hard to even find the pump, but I would offer quite a bit less. Maybe there are a lot of smog pump bodies out there for sale, but I don't see many for a good deal. If you factor the pump, the diverter, and the clamps, I thought it might help someone out.
Please post some links to better discounted good deals, if my post seemed absurd... ;D

When I was looking for a setup for my 69 Corvette, I found a pump locally (Cragislist) for $20 with an incorrect diverter valve, but it "looked" correct so I kept it. The pump itself was in "good" shape, but had a black fan on it. The correct repop white fan was $70, the brackets (used) were another $30 and the hoses, clamps and valves, etc... came to a little under $100. The repop smog tubes were the most expensive at $300 a set but they're perfect. So all in all, I have a little over $500 in the system and although it's not "show quality" (things like I painted diverver valve instead of plating it because that cost STUPID money), it's close enough for government work. Especially since I don't "show" the car.

I had one of those L/H small bock tubes that I couldn't sell for $40 that still has the nuts. Sold the rest of the set up (taken off in the 70s in great shape) for $150. Sorry Austin, I don't see much value there either. Might help if the pump had a relief valve.

Nice engine, Ed.

You mean like this one? (See below). I got this one off Craigslist last year for $25! WITH the correct white fan!!!

And thanks John. It's far from "factory", but I saved a ton of $$$ taking short cuts. Like the smog hoses. They're standard cooling hoses from Auto Zone! And the valves are from Rock Auto that I painted with silver and gold paint. They really turned out good. A very light coat of silver and a very light coat of gold over that, and they even have the "color change" when you look at them from different angles! The only thing I'm not really happy with is the diverter valve. It's supposed to be kind of a flat green. Sorta like your basic military green but I couldn't find that in a spray can. If I ever do, I'll redo it. And the filter isn't right either, so I'll need to redo that with flat black, like "radiator black".

I was going to tell you that I just purchased 3 cans last night at Lowes, but when I looked it turns out I bought Krylon (#8609); I've used both and there's very little (or no?) difference.   I use this stuff a lot when I clean small metal parts that I'm going to paint later as I believe the self-etching nature of this primer helps to prevent future rust under the paint.

Gary, are you sure about that part number? RustoLeum 249322 says it's gray. Krylon 8609 looks correct, but I can't find anywhere to buy it!!
