Earliest Los Angeles 67 build
« on: August 31, 2018, 03:33:11 AM »
I have a 67 vin in the very low 2xx and a body build of 8D. Body build number in the teens. I am not sure but believe this to be a first day build at the Van Nuys plant. As a side note I grew up 15 minutes from the Van Nuys plant and live about 25 minutes from the site now. I have looked for any info on when they started building the Camaro there. Only info I have is that assembly started there sometime after assembly in Norwood. Would it have been the 4th week of August?

Sept 1966. Last car was 7L104208. What is the full VIN of your car? There might be data about your car....Joe

There's no reason not to post the numbers, if you want good answers.

Yeah, but you got no answers before. ;)
Remember, it's always a ramp-up, especially a new body style in a plant.
Your car was built about the 7th or 8th day of production. The low body # is because it's a convertible with dlx interior - see the body # article

I did read the link. Very informative..still trying to wrap my head around this though. If the car was built 7th or 8th day of production that means they were building 30-40 cars per day. That doesn't seem right when they built 4500 cars by the end of September. At 7 days a week that works out to 150 cars per day. I don't remember reading this or not but we're Los Angeles vin number vehicle specific or plant specific. I know they were building more than just the Camaro on that line in 67. Any help understanding is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Several years ago, my neighbor owned what I believed to be an early LOS car.  The tag indicated 09C and the body number was 889.  My notes do not indicate the presence of the typical LOS scheduling code on the upper right part of the tag and the car is long gone at this point so there is no additional data available.

VIN's were plant and vehicle line specific.
Ramp-up - they just couldn't turn on a switch and build a new model at full speed.
