1967 rear spoiler question
« on: August 06, 2018, 07:32:29 PM »
I looked for any old posts, but was 67 Camaro dealer installed spoiler possible?  I know it wasn't an option, but was it ever available from the dealer at any time? Would it have been possible to add by dealer after 68, or just a body shop modification?

The spoiler was available as an over the counter service item for late 1967 models, so either you had to have a really late 1967 Camaro, had a car that sat on the lot for a while, or you had to take it back to the dealer at a later date to have one installed. (Or, you could buy the spoiler from the dealer and do it yourself.)

I found a 67 Camaro for sale, has rear spoiler and one owner, that's why I was curious.   I'm not looking to buy only just inquiring on Camaro facts, and options. Car has rear fold down seat and tach and gauges, but is a standard model 327, automatic convertible.

The fold down seat was available on any Camaro and the tach and gauges were available with any V8 Camaro.

Probably so, the seller states it's an older woman original owner. So no clue

Factory spoiler cars have their radio antenna on the front right fender, reason as follows. Cars built without spoiler have a rear mounted radio antenna, when adding a spoiler, it will slap the antenna when trunk lid is opened.

Restored cars that have no antenna means it has received replacement Sheetmetal, for new metal does not have a hole for the antenna because they do not know which it is to be and leaves it to the bodyshop to cut a hole where it needs to be.

Maybe a restored car that has no antenna holes could mean it originally was a radio delete car.

No, ALL cars with radios got a front passenger side fender mounted antenna except for cars that came with the AM radio AND the original buyer opted for the rear mounted antenna.

Ed,
And the rear antenna was available as an option with AM too, correct? Your reply sort of makes it seem like you have to have the AM/FM radio to order the rear option.

According to the options spreadsheet, RPO U73 Antenna, manual, rear mount, was only available with an AM radio.  All the AM/FMs RPO U69 or U79  had a front mounted, fixed height antenna mast

I guess I have a very rare 68 for according to the protect-o-plate it cam with a am/fm radio and the antenna is in the rear.
