69 Camaro BOM
« on: July 08, 2018, 08:17:41 PM »
I'm a Quality Tech at a major refrigerator plant and are very familiar with "BOMs" (bill of materials). Every refrigerator we build regardless of size, make or model has a BOM that list every single part, clip, nut, screw, etc for that unit by part numbers. There is no doubt in my mind that GM had BOMs for each model of 69 Camaro they built on the assembly line. With all that being said, this is my question. Have any of you ever seen BOM data bases in excel or pdf format for the 69 Camaro? The reason I would like to be able to access that information is, I'm always wondering if a GM part with a specific part number is correct for a 69 Camaro. It would be great to simply enter a search for a part number and see if it was in the BOM. I know I dreaming here, wanting such information, but I know it exist. Probably in the old GM archives, not available to the public. The part I'm trying to determine if it is correct for a 69 with tilt column is #7819738. That is a plastic steering wheel lock plate dust cover.

I am not aware of any BOMs for any car.

Regarding your part number 7819738, I could not find it in a 1970 or 1975 dated Chevrolet price book. Where did you get that part number from? If you got it from a GM parts book, what is the print date? What parts group is this in?

The only way to get the best information is to find parts books that were printed in the year the car was manufactured. Through out the year they revised the parts books for updated part numbers and deletions.

I doubt the dust cover was plastic on a tilt column. The non-tilt column dust covers are steel. Are you missing parts for a column?

I'm sure GM maintained BOMs for their products when they were building them, but I've never seen a copy of one, and probably never will...
