Dash light issue
« on: May 26, 2018, 03:49:15 PM »
I pulled the dash out of my 67 to change the lens it had ,ajor fog. While it was out I changed all the bulbs since most were now working. Since the the dash lights have worked on and off.

Turn signal blinkers work fine and same with the idiot lights?

What should i check?

Is there one sp[ecific ground for the dash lights

The bulb sockets in relation to the PCB on the back of the cluster is a known issue with the lights failing to work..  I suggest locating the bulbs and sockets that do work and try them in other locations.  If the problem continues even with known good socket & bulb then it is most likely in the PCB.  Also confirm the small fingers are making good contact with the circuit on the PCB.  The circuit for the bulbs runs all on one.  Look at the AIM for the wiring diagram.  You need to learn and understand how the circuits are routed and work.  Until then you are just trying and replacing items.

Thank you I will pull the dash and check it all out. I will get my tester and make sure it is not the switch also?

If it were the switch none of them would work.  Again the instrument cluster lights are all on the same circuit.

None of the lights work but the signal and idiot lights. So I’m thinking switch? It has the part that sets the dash light brightness, it may be bad? I will test it this week while dash is out.

Update after searching old posts on this site another member had the same issue. His brake lights and tail lights would also not work? Turns out the brake, turn and dash lights all are connected to the same fuse, the bottom one in the block. I checked and had no tail lights or brake lights working also. I checked the fuse it looked good but replaced it any way Shazam now it all works!
Another of my 21 things to fix taken care of! Slowly getting my new toy working as designed.
