Reproduction consoles for 68 Camaro
« on: May 02, 2018, 12:50:45 AM »
Some feedback would be appreciated from those that have purchased one. Are all the holes / threads positioned correctly as per originals and do they all come from the same factory or are some better than others?

I don't know anything about the repop consoles but the are still some original out there to be purchased. I see them on craigslist
& once in a while at the swap meets. You just have to watch. I would rather buy a used original GM part. Good luck, Joe

I bought my repro for my ‘68 from HBC. Good fit, all the holes and threads were perfect. The only complaint I have is that technically the bottom shell for a ‘68 is different than the bottom shell for a ‘69. In ‘69 the front of the bottom shell has a cutout for the console wiring to pass thru. In ‘68 the wires ran under the shell. All of the repro consoles have standardized on the ‘69 design

Huh, did not know of the design change in the console bottoms. I thought the one in my 68 was a repop or a 69 due to having a 69 shifter plate in it, but it doesn't have a cut out for the wiring. This is one of the few times I am glad I was wrong, lol.

Also the original '68 consoles were moulded from an off-white colored plastic, seen on the base when viewed from the underside. '69 consoles were made from black plastic.

I've got an original with gauges but it's a 69.
