Stupid question...small block v. big block weight?
« on: February 14, 2007, 03:15:44 PM »
I was wondering how much a small block factory setup in a 69 Camaro weighs versus a 502 big block.  When shipped to me the shipper indicated the engine with the serpentine belt setup with AC, PS, Alt etc. were 900 lbs.  I know some of this is contributed to the crating and over estimating.  I look online but can not find this info.  So, for anyone who may know.  What would the actual or at least close estimate of weight be for a loaded up 502 and just out of curiosity, what would this same weight be for my factory 350 smallblock in my other 69 be?

I know...stupid question.  But I don't know and I am curious.  Besides, there is no such thing as stupid questions...just stupid people...RIGHT?

Thanks,

Steve

My guess is a small block about 450 lb, a bb closer to 600.

Camaro factory AMA weight specs show the big-block is 160# heavier than a small-block V-8.
