In response to Austin's questions, I measured the diameter of my original hook the other day and got slightly over 0.30"  (measured 0.305 with a vernier caliper)...
Gary was that on the threaded or threaded section? I didn't try to measure that aspect accurately, just used the rule shown in the picture above and got ~1/4".

My hook that Tim mentioned on EBay arrived today. 9.88 inches total length, 5.32 inches threaded, width of hook 2.19 inches, diameter varies from 0.272 to 0.278 inches. Not the same as original - but for me, it will work. :)

I mic'ed the shaft in a part that was UNthreaded...  The shaft 'seemed' visually to be the same diameter everywhere, and I only measured at one location.

I looked at the print for 3949607 Spare Wheel Bolt (UPC 10, page A2) the other day.
Overall length was about 9.4" (it's measured to the radius, hence not exact). 8.36" from the hook side to the end. About 2.1" hook width.
5/16-18 threads. Zinc plate, with optional hot galvanize or phosphate.

The only reason I might guess about would be the wider/larger wheel (15x7) which might require a longer hook... ?

Looking a CBTN, the offset for the 69 Z28 15" wheel is .30" and the offset for the other wheels is anywhere from .26" to .50" (depending on the wheel). Since the 15" wheel is actually less than most of the others there would be no reason to use a different hook for the Z28.

Ed

Ed, 'offset' is measured from the CENTER of the wheel, so one would add (or subtract) the offset from  (1/2 the wheel width +1/2") to get the 'offset from the front or back of the wheel.   So a 7" wide wheel would require a longer bolt than a 6" wheel (with the same offset).

You're only talking 1/2" difference...

As usual, the thread got the best of me - I had to go dig out the hook from the Z - looks to be slightly shorter than the other examples from 2017, maybe .250 ? Held the YH spare in the trunk since I bought the car in '73, would bet it's original - opinions ?
