trunk lid rear emblem with factory D80 spoiler
« on: August 26, 2017, 02:16:59 AM »
I noticed and realized today, that my 69 RS with rear spoiler dont have the "Camaro by Chevrolet" emblem, on the trunk. If D80 was factory installed and ordered, was the emblem just deleted or was it relocated ? Is it the exact same emblem ? Any pictures and advises are welcome please !

When D80 was ordered the same emblem moves to the location just in front of the spoiler.

You're welcome!

If there is a question as to whether the spoiler is original or added to your car later, you can always measure the diameter of the torsion springs that hold the trunk lid open.  Original D80 cars have one larger torsion spring to hold the extra weight of the spoiler.  So if both torsion springs are the same diameter the spoiler was probably added later.  If one spring is bigger than the other, that almost guarantees that D80 was originally optioned on the car.

Mine as no emblem at all. I'll have a look tomorrow to see if the 4 holes are there under the spoiler. So correct me if I'm wrong, but the dealer was not moving the emblem at all, just deleting it, right ?

This was done at the factory.

yes ok.

But for someone who had it installed at the dealer after while, does the dealer was relocating the emblem, or simply throw it away ?

Probably depended on the dealer, but I wouldn't be surprised if they left it off.

The trunk lid emblem was supposed to be relocated on cars built with D80 until mid-April 1969. Trunk lids were received at the plants pre-punched for the emblem; on D80 builds they were sealed and usually re-drilled. There are original D80 cars with no emblem.

When Firebird moved to Norwood, lids were no longer pre-punched. A fixture was added in production to punch whatever holes were needed.

That spoiler was added, IMO, after the car was built. Someone went to the effort of filling in the holes

I believe also that this spoiler was added, especially on an RS. I'm just wondering if yes or no, I'll put a rear "Camaro" emblem forward of the spoiler.

The spoiler didn't have to be non-factory added to fill in the holes. That could have been done at re-paint which is likely the case whether it was added or not.

My car was restored in 2007, 8 years before I bought it. It seems to be the original trunk lid, since I do have a date on it. It'S an original part anyway.

I do believe that my spoiler was added by the dealer once upon the time, and then in 2007 when the car was restored, they repaint the inside as well, so make sure the holes we're well covered with paint to avoid future rust problem.
