What is the casting date of the center section on the axle and what is the complete assembly stamped information on the front edge of the passenger side axle tube?

In 68, BE is a 2.56 open axle. In 69 it's the 4.10 posi COPO axle.

It was on ebay back in 2008. The location then was Wabash, IN. Here's the auction ad:

Quote
1968 Camaro Z28 124378N467701. It is a true Z28. It has disk brakes on the front. Has the 4 speed and motor still in it. It is missing the Shifter and linkage. Told when i bought the car years ago that it has a 350 in it now with the correct transmission. He told me it came out with a 302 dz motor new. Can not verify that though. It now has a 9" rear in it and possitraction. The motor does not run at this time. Will turn over by hand. The car is in need of totol restoration. Will add more pics in next couple of days. Car is sold as is. $200 nonrefundable deposit due with in 3 days of end of sale. If you come and dont want it you dont have to take it. Want you to be happy with it. If it sells great if not it will never be offered again. Thanks and good luck. Is for sale locally so sale may end early. Happy bidding. Please no dead beat bidders or 0 - 10 feedbacks unless you contact me first. If not bid will be rejected.
Already asked about car in back ground. It was sold and gone already. Pitchers were taken this spring. Car still looks the same. Will take some new ones of the motor and other parts of the car in next couple of days. Thanks.

If it has a 12 bolt in it, it's been added between 2008 and now. No DZ motor in 1968 either. 4 leafs might be an indicator, but after 50 years they could have been changed.

Thanks for the move. I was browsing the 68 orphan area when it struck me that somebody may could help me by the vin. I got excited and started typing before I realized what section I was in.  Disregard the poorly typed. Message on the original post I swear I proof read before posting and now it's all jacked up lol.

British green/Ivey gold.   Rear axle is bw. I can't make out center section codes very rusty. 4spd car. Lots of a parts but no block or trans.

Thanks for the pics and info!

Bertfam do you happen to have other pics? Or a name and number ? Anything ? Lol.  I'm curious if it really had a 9 inch or if he was guessing?

It took me three days to get rear end out due to the massive rust an crust on the nuts and perch areas I would have bet it had been sitting in water or mud for years?

The guys number changed, I was discouraged then I decided to run a craigslist ad in muncie indiana , I told the story and posted the pics and the guy contacted me with the new phone number.  His story is crazy and haphazard at best. He claims the car never had a 9inch Ford. So I asked him if he ran the ad on eBay and he said yes??? So I sent a screen shot of the ad.   He said he didn't put that on there????   Without any prompting from me he told me how he found the car sitting behind a house and barn by accident litterally up to the floor pan in soggy mud. And how bad the whole undercarriage was rusted and corroded. He says he thought about putting a 9 inch under it but the rust was so bad he didn't want to tackle the project.  I tackled the project it was crazy bad.  Any way he is a former professional baseball pitcher I verified that through MLB.com, lol I even have some of this guys cards.  But now I'm back at square one as to how to prove SS or Z28.   He also kept saying the build sheet was legiable, found on gas tank and specifically remembers it saying. Model or trim Z28?????   Of course he can't provide that paperwork as he lost it or thinks his buddy took it?   So was that possible????   Did the build sheet have area marked trim or style that would have info aged Z28??      I'm so depressed. Lol

Sounds like he's been beaned one too many times!!

Anyway, no, there's nothing on the Chassis Broadcast or the Body Broadcast Copies that specifically state "Z28". The engine code is listed in box 152, and there are all the other tale-tell indicators, but you have to know what you're looking for and how to decode them.

However, I doubt either one was found on the gas tank. Norwood was VERY good about cleaning up the cars and only a handful of Norwood CBC's or BBC's have been found.

By the way, BW code is a 4.56 12 bolt posi, but we would need a picture of the axle code to see if it's original to the car. If it is, then that's a good indicator that the car started out as a Z28! Also, does the car have the Muncie speedometer hole in the firewall?

Yes it has the muncie hole. It has all the things that it should except the engine with the partial vin.  Yes it 4:56 BW code on axle tube but the pumpkin area was so corroded with flaky caked on rust that after hours of naval jelly and careful. Leaning and scrubing on that date code area it was just a clump of unreadable crap. So I had it soda blasted with care taken in that area.....still unreadable.... I'll try to post a pic soon of that, maybe some of you with more experience can make out a letter or number that hopefully would help.

The picture is very small, but it appears to be BW0614G1? If that's the case (June 14th), it looks good. That would be a good date for a 07B build. Can you post a higher resolution picture?

Also, is the tire pressure sticker still on the glove box door? If so, post a picture of that too.

Yes if original the BW coded axle would be a good sign for a 68 Z28.

In addition to the glove box sticker that Ed asked for, does it have an original in dash tach? If so, what's the redline?

How rusty is the body?
