Original steel brake lines or stainless steel. Preferences?
« on: February 22, 2017, 01:54:52 AM »
Just looking for some opinions on which ones anyone has used or their preferences. Getting ready to swap my 67 over to power front disk brakes and going to get all new lines front to rear and on up to the master cylinder. Just looking for some input or thoughts on the subject. Planning to use original spindles and brackets along with single piston calipers from a 69 I acquired a number of years ago. Other than the calipers, would like to make it look factory stock for 1967. Any comments are appreciated! Thanks!

Search the threads and get ready for an avalanche of discussion. Some people have had difficulties with stainless lines sealing at the threaded connections, other say they are great and have had no problems at all. I have a complete set for my X77 in stainless, acquired many, many years ago - I'm determined to make them work. I did salvage the original lines for the most part, may try steel lines on the next one (Pace Car refresh, still originals).

69 Camaro calipers will hit 67 bump stops. Buy Monte/Chevelle calipers. You'll have to machine the drum spindle boss when converting to disc.

Thanks for the input guys! When I said original spindles I meant the ones off of the 69 not my original 67 drum spindles. Thanks for the heads up on the calipers and bumpstops. Trying to get everything together right now so I have everything I'm going to need on hand.
