08E 67 Camaro rear end
« on: July 27, 2016, 12:07:28 AM »
I'm not sure if this the right spot but I thought you all might be interested in the seeing the original paint markings and the rear end code & date on the gears..  These pics are from an early 67 basket case I bought in May that I have been putting together.

Was this rear degreased when the pictures were taken?
It looks like the orange stripe is under the black paint (?)

Yes I started scraping the gunk off it when I found the markings. They do look like they might be under any paint the rear end might have had.

Was it a V8 or L6 car originally?
Thanks!

Kurt, it was born a L6 car.

Another odd thing was it did not have a front sway bar. There weren't even any holes for the sway bar brackets in the subframe. Does anyone know if this is a 67 6cyl thing or just because it was an early car?

Yes, it's a '67 6-cylinder thing.  Read this...

Thanks. Lots of those early cars are L6's and ordered with almost no options.
Probably column shift manual trans?

Thanks, yes sir this car was about as basic as they came from what I can tell.

I over paid for this turd as a basket case in May with no motor, trans, interior or much of anything else for that matter. lol..  It had a manual trans clutch pedal laying in the floor and the tunnel had been butchered in the past from a shifter but there was no sign of the metal ring on the floor for the shifter boot. That would make sense that it was a 3 on the tree but I assume the column has been changed because it had a floor shift column. This car has been beat from every end and used & abused over the last 50 years.

After replacing both the quarters, outer wheel houses, trunk drop offs, trunk filler panel, dash and several portions of the floor it's back off my rotisserie and the rear shell is in 2K primer. I would like to shoot it sometime in October before the weather changes and hopefully have a running driving car early spring.  Once it's complete, I'm going to put a for sale sign in the window and I promised my daughter I would let her daily drive it until it sells. She is a senor this year and something tells me there wont be another one like it in High school parking lot.  :)
