1967 LOS VIN 7L100087 Body 32 with 08D production Code
« on: February 11, 2016, 05:12:20 AM »
I just purchased this car and was wondering, if this could be a day one car for
Los Angeles Production. Does anyone know the date they started production at that facility? Sport Coupe with standard Gold interior and exterior with a column shift 3 speed manual 6 cylinder car. Now equipped with a 1972 350 in its engine bay.

Thank you,
1967 Camaro Granada Gold

It certainly sounds as if it could be a 'first production day' car... :)  although I'm not sure how quickly they ramped up to a full production rate when LA began production.  Sounds like a great car to maintain in it's original condition.... if it weren't too late to do so.  I personally love the six cyl / 3 sp camaros and would love to have one.

That car was a beautiful original a few years ago. An owner was having problems selling it and put in the 327 and painted the Z stripes on it.

No, that probably would not be the first day of production. The very first days were a ramp up, especially with a new body style. Cars (normally low option) would trickle down the line as the bugs got worked out and the workers learned the new body and parts.

Kurt,  didn't they do the 'trickling' with pre-production/test cars prior to beginning the actual production?   Otherwise, how many days do you estimate it would take them to 'trickle' 32 cars??  :)

Thanks for the comments, I noticed that I have the body number Wrong in the post, it is actually 34 on the tag. Late night typing :D  Really enjoying the site and all the fantastic information available for research. The car is pretty solid with a bench seat installed was a 709 Z with standard buckets when new. I will get some pics up soon.

Don't go by the body #, go by the VIN.
The pilot cars go down the line and, when it's a new body like this, the next cars may be weeks or months later. Remember, they sent several of those pilot cars off to do durability testing.
Very different when when it's 68 or 69 and all the tooling is up and running and just getting minor changes.
